President Kovind to address special session of Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly in Shimla

President Ram Nath Kovind will address today the special session of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly in Shimla. President Ram Nath Kovind will be the third President after APJ Abdul Kalam and Pranab Mukherjee to address the state legislative assembly.

AIR correspondent reports that all sitting and former MLAs and MPs from the state including Ex-chief ministers have been invited to attend the special assembly session, which is being organized to mark the Golden Jubilee of statehood of Himachal Pradesh.

President Ram Nath Kovind has arrived in Shimla on his four-day visit to Himachal Pradesh. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, Assembly Speaker Vipin Parmar, senior officials and other dignitaries welcomed him at Annadale Helipad, yesterday. Elaborate security arrangements have been made in Shimla city in view of the President’s visit. The President will address a special session of the Legislative Assembly at 11 am today to mark the golden jubilee of Himachal Pradesh statehood.

More than 73 former MPs and MLAs will participate in this mega event. Former Chief Minister Shanta Kumar and Prem Kumar Dhumal have also been invited to attend the session. Doordarshan and All India Radio will broadcast the President’s address live from the state assembly. Meanwhile, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur has also reached Shimla to participate in the special session of the state assembly. Anurag Thakur is among the five MPs from Himachal who have been specially invited to attend the session. The President will also attend a cultural program and a banquet to be hosted by the Governor in President’s honor today evening.
