Lt Governor of Delhi V K Saxena dissolves Delhi Assembly. CM Atishi submits her resignation.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi handed over her resignation to Lt Governor V K Saxena today a day after her Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) faced a crushing defeat in the assembly polls. Atishi, who retained her Kalkaji seat, handed over her resignation to Lt Governor V K Saxena at Raj Niwas this morning. 

Atishi took oath as chief minister in September last year after AAP convenor and her predecessor Arvind Kejriwal resigned from the post amid corruption allegations against him. Meanwhile, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has dissolved the Seventh Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi with effect from 8th February.

The Bharatiya Janata Party, yesterday emerged victorious in the Delhi Assembly polls after winning 48 out of 70 seats. The Aam Aadmi Party only managed to win 22 seats. The BJP returned to power in Delhi after more than 26 years, winning 48 of the 70 assembly seats.

The AAP won 22 seats while the Congress drew a blank in the polls held on February 5. The BJP is expected to stake claim to power next week after Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from a foreign visit, party leaders said. Talking to the Media, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva said that the BJP will fulfil the promises made to the people and will make Delhi a developed capital.
