In Gujarat, as many as 185 people were granted Indian citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) at a programme held in Rajkot today.
Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi handed over citizenship certificates to the recipients, who were people displaced from Pakistan and settled in the districts of Kutch, Morbi, and Rajkot.
The Minister assured the newly naturalized citizens of the government’s full support and promised that they would be provided with the benefits of all relevant government schemes. During the ceremony, beneficiaries expressed deep gratitude to the Government.
“You are now citizens of the great nation – India,” Gujarat Minister of State for Home Affairs Harsh Sanghavi told the gathering. The announcement was met with chants of “Bharat mata ki jai (Victory to mother India)” from the audience, with several recipients becoming emotional as they received their certificates.
The beneficiaries included men, women, and children who migrated from Pakistan citing religious persecution and lack of security. Many belong to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, and Buddhist communities – groups recognised under the CAA as eligible for naturalisation
