The government today said that it has adopted a multi-pronged strategy to strengthen the earthquake risk reduction mechanism.
Replying to the supplementarity, Minister for Earth Sciences, Dr Jintendra said that the government has installed early warning systems, installed observatories in the Himalayas and elsewhere and continues to hold disaster response trainings, awareness programmes and mock exercises so that the men and machinery remain ready in case of any eventuality.
The Minister said that though it isn’t always possible to forecast earthquakes in advance, the government is using both technological and other means for risk reduction.
Dr Singh said that the government has also issued guidelines from time to time to ensure that people are ready to deal with situations arising due to natural disasters.
