Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Jual Oram, inaugurates the 8-day-long “Purvottar Aadi Mahotsav” in Guwahati today. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Oram said that the Tribal Affairs Ministry is working for the speedy development of the tribal community.
He added that the Ministry has been revamped and budgetary allocations increased for the welfare of the tribals. The Minister further said that this year, 3.5 lakh crore rupees will be spent for the upliftment of the tribals, and 25,000 kilometres of roads will be developed in tribal-dominated areas.
The Purvottar Aadi Mahotsav is a National Tribal Festival to celebrate, cherish, and promote the spirit of tribal craft, culture, cuisine, and commerce. The Mahotsav has been organized by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and TRIFED. The Purvottar Aadi Mahotsav will conclude on 15th November 2024.
The Mahotsav features the display and sale of tribal art, craft, medicine, cuisine, and folk performances, with artisans, chefs, and performers from 13 states showcasing their rich traditional culture. Durgadas Uikey, MoS for Tribal Affairs, and several dignitaries were present on the occasion.
