In Punjab, as a significant move to reduce fatal road accidents, State Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar has outlined a multi-pronged strategy to enhance road safety across the state and has stressed for zero-tolerance approach to traffic violations.
To strengthen the road safety, he has approved the release of Rs.55 Crores for already established ‘Sadak Surakhiya Force’ (SSF). The force will be equipped with 144 Highway Patrol Vehicles.
He said that preliminary assessments indicate a remarkable 45.5% reduction in road accident mortality rates since the inception of the SSF. An additional Rs.7 crores has been sanctioned for procuring electronic equipment to support this force.
Presiding over the 15th meeting of the Punjab State Road Safety Council (PSRSC) Mr. Bhullar announced mandatory monthly review meetings of concerned departments, including of health, to assess departmental performances.
