The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Haryana government over the reported surgery of a patient on the wrong knee at a hospital in Panipat.
Taking suo-moto cognizance of a media report, the NHRC has issued notices to the Haryana Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police for a detailed report within one week. It added that the report should include the action taken against the guilty and any potential compensation provided to the patient.
The Commission said that according to the media report, instead of the victim’s injured right knee, the operation was mistakenly conducted on his left knee. The media reports also claimed that the patient was charged by the hospital despite being a beneficiary of Ayushman – Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY).
