In Tennis, India’s Yuki Bhambri and his partner Alexei Popyrin of Australia have advanced to the Men’s Doubles Final of the Dubai Championships.
The unseeded, Indian-Australian duo defeated Jamie Murray of United Kingdom and John Peers of Australia in the semifinal yesterday.
This is Bhambri’s first-ever ATP-500 final. The victory also pushed him to a career-high live ranking of No. 41 in the ATP doubles rankings. Bhambri and Popyrin will take on Henry Patten of the United Kingdom and Harri Heliövaara of Finland in the final this evening.
The Indo-Aussie team had beaten the top seeds in similar fashion after losing the first set in the first round, and had been pulling through every match in the super tie-break. The champion team won 500 ATP points and $198,880. The runner-up team collected 300 points and $106,060.
