The domestic benchmark indices today ended with losses for the third consecutive session. The BSE Sensex shed 139 points to close at 80,082, and the NSE Nifty fell 37 points to settle at 24,435. Both indices dropped over 0.1 per cent.
The broader market at Bombay Stock Exchange outperformed the equity market. The mid-cap index gained nearly half per cent, and the small-cap index advanced over 0.9 per cent.
In the Sensex index, 22 out of 30 companies ended in negative territory. In the laggards, Mahindra and Mahindra lost 3.2 per cent, Sun Pharma shed over 2.7 per cent, and PowerGrid fell 1.8 per cent. Conversely, in the top gainers, Bajaj Finance surged nearly five per cent, Tech Mahindra gained over 2.2 per cent, and HCL Tech added 1.2 per cent.
In Sectoral Indices at the BSE, 12 out of 20 sectors logged losses. In the top laggards, Power declined over 1.39 per cent, Capital Goods slipped more than one per cent, and Healthcare was over 0.8 per cent down. In the top gainers, information technology rose nearly two per cent, Teck added 1.2 per cent, and telecommunication gained 0.4 per cent.
The overall market breadth at the BSE was positive, as shares of 2,177 companies advanced and 1,751 declined, while 103 remained unchanged. At the National Stock Exchange, 44 companies hit their 52-week high while 154 hit their 52-week low.
