In Punjab, a high-profile delegation from New Zealand met Principal Secretary of state’s Animal Husbandry Department in Chandigarh, to explore potential collaboration in the animal husbandry sector. The discussion focused on animal breeding, small-holder dairy systems, and achieving consistent genetic progress to improve milk yields.
During the meeting, Mr. Bhandari provided an update on the National Dairy Plan-1, launched in July 2013, and briefed the delegation on its ongoing initiatives in Punjab.
The plan is currently being implemented across 160 institutions in districts of Patiala, Sangrur, and Barnala, with significant progress achieved so far. He also highlighted the importance of procuring high-quality bulls to further boost milk production and quality in the state.
