The Parliament has given its nod to the Budget (Manipur) 2025-26, the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the Manipur Appropriation (No. 2) Bill, 2025. The Rajya Sabha today returned these Bills to the Lok Sabha after discussion.
Replying to a brief discussion over these Bills in the Rajya Sabha, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, the budget is critical for the state of Manipur as this is a full budget and the passing of this budget is the constitutional responsibility of all. She said, Manipur GST and the Budget are very critical for Manipur, but the opposition is not cooperating on such important issues.
She said, they are engaged in taking political mileage by raising other issues. The Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured that the development of Manipur does not suffer.
Earlier, participating in the discussion, Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba of BJP said, the government has allocated a total outlay of 30 thousand 900 crore rupees for Manipur. He said, this budget aims to restore trust and stability in Manipur, with the focus of stabilizing its economy.
He said, one thousand 65 crore rupees have been allocated for relief and rehabilitation, five thousand 241 crore rupees for security and infrastructure, and 11 thousand 520 crore rupees for the social and development sector.
He said, Manipur is witnessing improvement in law and order situation with the collective efforts of the central and state government. Golla Baburao of YSRCP appreciated the central government for taking decisive steps to restore peace and stability in Manipur. Muzibulla Khan of BJD alleged that measures have not been taken to restore normalcy in Manipur. Kanad Purkayastha of BJP also participated in the discussion.
