Market Update. Sensex down 319 points. Nifty settles at 24,971.

The domestic benchmark indices today extended losses for the second straight session. The BSE Sensex lost 319 points to close at 81,501 and the NSE Nifty ended with a downfall of 86 points, to settle at 24,971. Both the indices ended over 0.3 percent down.

The broader market at Bombay Stock Exchange displayed a mixed trend. The Mid-Cap index ended marginally down 0.1 percent while the Small-Cap index rose 0.3 percent.

In the Sensex index, 25 out of 30 companies ended in negative territory. In the laggards, Mahindra and Mahindra lost 2.8 percent, Infosys shed more than two percent and Adani Ports fell 1.2 percent. Conversely, in the top gainers, HDFC and Bharti Airtel, both increased over 0.9 percent each, Reliance gained more than half percent and Asian Paints added 0.3 percent.

In Sectoral Indices at the BSE, 13 out of 20 sectors logged losses. In the top laggards, Information Technology declined more than one percent, Auto slipped nearly one percent, and Teck was more than half percent down. In the top gainers, Telecommunication added over 0.9 percent, Realty rose more than half percent, and Energy added 0.2 percent.

The overall market breadth at the BSE was positive as shares of 2,021 companies advanced and 1,941 declined while 106 remained unchanged.

At the National Stock Exchange, 104 companies hit their 52-week high while 21 hit their 52-week low.
