Benchmark domestic equity indices today ended with losses of around half a percent amid weak global cues. The 30-share index at the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex, fell 384 points to close at 81,748. Similarly, the National Stock Exchange Nifty-50 dipped 100 points to end at 24,668.
The broader market indices at the BSE outperformed the equity market. The Mid-Cap index climbed over 0.7 percent, and the Small-Cap index rose nearly half a percent.
In the Sensex index, 24 out of 30 companies ended lower. In the top laggards, Titan fell over two percent, Adani Ports lost over 1.3 percent, and TCS dropped more than 1.2 percent. Conversely, among the top gainers, IndusInd Bank gained over 1.2 percent, Bajaj Finance climbed 0.3 percent, and PowerGrid rose over 0.2 percent.
In sectoral indices at the BSE, 13 out of 20 sectors ended in negative territory. In the top laggards, Metal dipped over 0.9 percent, Teck shed 0.8 percent, and Oil and Gas lost over 0.7 percent. Meanwhile, among the top gainers, Realty surged over three percent, Consumer Discretionary rose almost 0.7 percent, and Industrials added over half a percent.
The overall market breadth at the BSE was positive as shares of 2,346 companies advanced and 1,796 declined while 98 remained unchanged. At the National Stock Exchange, 128 companies hit their 52-week high while 15 hit their 52-week low.
