Delhi Police has registered an FIR against senior advocate Prashant Bhushan in connection with the alleged circulation of a doctored video of the Russian Foreign Minister containing content purportedly hostile to India.
According to Delhi Police, during cyber patrolling yesterday, it came to notice that a social media handle had claimed that the purported video was shared through the social media handle of Prashant Bhushan.
The police said that the video is alleged to have been circulated with misleading, defamatory and inflammatory content with the intention of inciting public disturbance and spreading rumours.
The development comes a day after the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) fact-checked the video, confirming that the clip was fabricated.
The clarification followed a denial by the Russian Embassy, which also disputed the authenticity of the video.
Bhushan had shared the clip on social media with the caption, “a tight slap by the Russian foreign minister on India. What kind of advice was Jaishankar giving to Russia?”
The video purportedly showed Lavrov criticising India’s domestic affairs and its purchases of Russian oil.
