Meghalaya Power Minister and United Democratic Party (UDP) president, Metbah Lyngdoh, has resigned from the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Cabinet with immediate effect, following the exit of 11 of the party’s 12 MLAs.
Announcing his decision, Mr Lyngdoh said he has submitted his resignation letter to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma after carefully considering the prevailing political situation and recent developments within the party.
With Mr Lyngdoh now the lone UDP MLA in the Assembly, he stated that the party’s Central Executive Committee would decide on the next course of action after consultations with party leaders and office-bearers.
Dismissing suggestions that he is under pressure to step down, Mr Lyngdoh maintained that his resignation is an independent decision taken after due consideration.
