CAQM Restricts Construction Activities Across NCR from November 5 to 20.

Commission for Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas (CAQM) has restricted dust-generating demolition and outdoor construction activities in the entire National Capital Region from the 5th to 20th of November.

However, the restrictions will not be applicable to projects related to Railways, Metro Services, Airports, Inter-State Bus Terminals, Hospitals, and projects of national importance.

CAQM, in its order, has directed NCR State Governments and Delhi Government to implement precautionary measures for prevention and control of air pollution.

According to the order, CAQM has also directed State Government and private offices to operate with up to 50 per cent of the staff strength attending physically and the remaining staff to work from home in the territorial jurisdiction of the NCT of Delhi.

Also included are the districts of Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar. The order exempts such industrial establishments and essential services, where this arrangement is not feasible.

The CAQM said that the proposed measures are preventive in nature, limited to a specified period and geographical area, and have been formulated keeping in view the seasonal vulnerability of the region to air pollution.

The objective of the proposed intervention is to reduce the emission load at source and minimise the accumulation of pollutants.
