In Punjab, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the investigation of Mansa-based anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota’s murder case. A team led by a senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) level officer will examine the case with all the facts and figures.

Earlier, the team of the investigative agency reached Mansa Police Station late last night to take over records. A new FIR has also been registered by the agency.

Forensic experts, drug controllers and other experts are also reaching Mansa. According to sources, a post-mortem of the victim will be conducted by a team of doctors in PGI Chandigarh and an enquiry will be done by a Chandigarh-based Magistrate.

Akashvani Jalandhar Correspondent reports that the action came within hours of the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah’s assurance of the CBI probe when he met Parvinder Singh’s family during his day-long visit to Punjab yesterday.

Jhota was shot dead by a Chemist, Ashwani Kumar, last week, when he confronted the chemist for selling synthetic drugs.

The Home Minister had also met another anti-drug activist, Vikramjit Singh’s family in Gurdaspur, who was also allegedly killed by drug traffickers for objecting to the sale of drugs.

He also assured justice to the family of Gulzar Singh, who allegedly committed suicide in Sangrur recently, when his pleas were not heard by the state government against the sale of drugs, which made his son an addict.
