Union Home Minister Amit Shah today met the family members of those who had been killed in Punjab’s Mansa and Gurdaspur recently for raising their voices against the drug menace in the state.
During his day-long visit, he also met the family of Gulzar Singh, who had committed suicide allegedly when his pleas were not heard by the state government against the sale of drugs, which made his son a drug addict.
Later, briefing the media in Ludhiana, the Home Minister said that the situation of the family members has shaken him. He blamed the Aam Aadmi Government in Punjab for protecting the drug traffickers.
He said that gangs are working in districts to protect drug traffickers. He told Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann that he would not be able to handle the other two cases also and would hand them over to the CBI as well.
Akashvani Jalandhar Correspondent reports that the Home Minister promised Punjab that the case of Parvinder Singh Jhota, which the Chief Minister handed over to the CBI, will be thoroughly taken care of and none involved in this episode will be spared. He assured us that by December 2029, Punjab will be drug-free, and those involved will be put behind bars.
Jhota was shot dead by a chemist, Ashwani Kumar, in Mansa when he objected to the sale of synthetic drugs by the chemist. His family has not yet cremated his mortal remains even after a week of his murder till justice is delivered.
Later, Mr Shah participated in the Dussehra ceremony at Ludhiana, where the burning of Ravana’s effigy has symbolically been themed as ‘Ravan of Chitta.’ During his address, he assured that by the end of 2029, the ‘Ravana of Drugs’ will also be burnt to free Punjab from drugs
