The latest incident comes barely a month after a suspected adulterated liquor incident in Mokokchung reportedly claimed eight lives.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the three men consumed MC Rum at the residence of one of them on the night of October 14. They reportedly developed symptoms including giddiness, nausea and blurred vision.
Police enquiries indicated that Bumbai had allegedly purchased four bottles of rum from New Sonowal in Assam about a month earlier.
The men are suspected to have shared the liquor during their gathering. The wife of one of the deceased has been identified as a witness.
The bodies of Chungkai and Samuel were taken to Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital in Mokokchung for post-mortem examinations. Police said no remnants of the liquor were recovered during preliminary searches of the scene and residence.
Investigators are now working to establish the exact cause of death and trace the source of the suspected adulterated liquor. Relevant exhibits will be sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in Kolkata for chemical analysis.
Police said the case is being treated seriously and legal action will follow based on the investigation. The suspected adulteration has yet to be confirmed through medical and forensic findings.
