The Indian Coast Guard inducted indigenous Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH MK-III) aircraft, CG 875, into the Coast Guard Region (West) at Ratnagiri in Maharashtra today.
The aircraft was received at Coast Guard Air Station, Ratnagiri, with a traditional ‘water cannon salute’. The Commanding Officer, ICGAS Ratnagiri, welcomed the aircraft and crew.
The induction of ALH MK-III at Ratnagiri marks a significant enhancement in the operational capability of the Indian Coast Guard along the West Coast.
The state-of-the-art helicopter is equipped with Advanced Radar, integrated with long-range imaging and identification capabilities through its Electro Optical Pod and Automatic Identification System.
The aircraft is additionally equipped for target neutralisation with its cabin mounted 12.7 mm Heavy Machine Gun.
These enhanced surveillance, detection, identification and response capabilities will significantly augment the ICG ability to safeguard nation’s maritime interests within the EEZ, especially along the sensitive coast of Maharashtra
The induction of CG 875 is particularly significant as it is the first of the allotted five ALH MK-III aircraft to be positioned with 831 Sqn (CG) at Ratnagiri.
The progressive induction of the remaining aircraft will substantially augment the Squadron’s operational capability and enable sustained aerial surveillance and response over the vast maritime area of Coast Guard Region (West), which faces diverse challenges owing to its strategic importance and geographical location.
