World Heart Day is being observed today. On the occasion, an awareness programme highlighting the importance of heart health was organised at Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital in Tripura.
World Heart Day is observed every year to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases globally and encourage people to adopt a heart-healthy lifestyle.
The key objective is to educate and encourage people to recognise the early warning signs of heart disease, control risk factors such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol, and maintain a schedule of regular health check-ups.
The theme of this year’s World Heart Day is “Don’t Miss a Moment”.
World Heart Day was established in 2000 by the World Heart Federation in collaboration with the World Health Organization to create global awareness about cardiovascular diseases and the steps needed to prevent them.
The day is observed every year on September 29, bringing together individuals, healthcare organisations, and communities from all over the world to focus on heart health and encourage preventive action.
Over the last decade, while there has been a notable increase in the number of people waking up to the importance of heart health – ironically, so has the number of people being diagnosed with cardiovascular disorders.
Blame it on sedentary lifestyles, poor dietary choices or increasing stress, the fact remains the same that heart diseases have emerged as one of the biggest health challenges in almost all parts of the world.
