A multi-storey building collapsed in the Satya Niketan area of New Delhi this afternoon.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited the mishap site and took stock of the situation. Talking to media she said that eleven people have been rescued so far.
She said that the building was old and renovation and construction work were underway. Ms. Gupta also said that those found responsible for the incident, whether the building owner or any official, will not be spared.
Later, the Chief Minister Ms Gupta visited AIIMS Trauma centre to meet the individuals rescued from the Satya Niketan building collapse site and brought for medical treatment.
In a social media post, she said all students are under treatment. She instructed the team of doctors to ensure every necessary medical assistance. Ms Gupta said that the Delhi Government is also in contact with the families of victims.
According to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi, four persons were brought to the Trauma Centre for treatment. Of them, one person was brought dead, two persons are in critical condition and one was discharged.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has said that six persons have been rescued so far and shifted to hospitals. The Police said during the local enquiry it was revealed that the building was 40 to 50 years old and some repair work was underway in the basement of the building when the incident happened.
The Delhi Fire Service has deployed 18 fire tenders for the relief and rescue work at the location.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has directed all concerned agencies, including the Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Service, and Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) to work in complete coordination to ensure swift rescue efforts on the ground.
In a social media post, Mr Sandhu said that the situation is being closely monitored and it will be ensured that every possible support reaches those in need. He also prayed for the safety and well-being of everyone affected.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta in a social media post said that an adjacent building has also been vacated as a precautionary measure and every possible effort is being made to safely rescue those trapped and provide immediate assistance to affected families. The Chief Minister has directed all concerned agencies to maintain close coordination and ensure a swift response.
Vice President C P Radhakrishnan has expressed grief over the tragic building collapse incident at Satya Niketan in New Delhi. In a social media post, Mr Radhakrishnan extended his condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed grief over the loss of lives due to building collapse in Delhi and described it as extremely painful. In a social media post Mr Singh said that rescue operations are underway and all possible assistance is being provided to the affected.
He said in this hour of sadness, his thoughts are with the bereaved families. Mr Singh prayed for the safety of everyone affected and for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi has expressed grief over the incident of a private building collapse at Satya Niketan in New Delhi. In a social media post, Mr Joshi informed that he spoke to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. He also prayed for the safety of everyone trapped in the building and wished a speedy recovery to those who have been injured.
