Odisha continues to experience an active spell of monsoon rain under the influence of a well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal-north Odisha coast.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the system is likely to move west-northwest wards across north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal during the next 24 hours.
The IMD has forecast extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places of Odisha today, with heavy to very heavy rain likely at several places in western parts of the state.
Schools in Bargarh districts are closed today as a precautionary measure as the IMD has issued a Red warning for it.
The weather office has also warned of continued rainfall activity over the state during the next few days. Meanwhile, the flood situation is being closely monitored.
The Baitarani, Brahmani, Subarnarekha and Budhabalanga rivers are reported to be stable and flowing below danger levels. However, authorities remain alert in vulnerable areas as further heavy rain could lead to localised flooding and waterlogging.
