The West Bengal Cabinet has approved the formation of an Anti-Narcotics Task Force to combat drug trafficking and drug networks.
Four Anti-Narcotics Police Stations will also be set up in Durgapur, Malda, Kharagpur and Nadia. The task force will strengthen intelligence gathering, investigation and coordination among agencies.
The Cabinet has approved 591 new posts for the initiative. Meanwhile, 461 permanent posts will be created for the Anti-Terrorist Squad, along with five contractual posts for software developers.
The decisions were taken at a Cabinet meeting, where the Suvendu Adhikari-led government also sanctioned more than 1,000 posts for the two specialised units and other security and administrative bodies.
