In Jammu and Kashmir, the second labourer injured in the terrorist attack in the Kelam area of Kulgam district has succumbed to his injuries this morning, taking the death toll to two.
A senior police official said the injured labourer succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a hospital in Srinagar.
The two labourers working at a brick kiln were fired upon by unidentified terrorists last evening. Soon after the incident, the area was cordoned off, and a massive search operation is underway to trace the terrorists.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have strongly condemned the killing of the labourers and offered condolences to the families of the deceased. The LG has directed the security forces to intensify operations in the area to neutralise the terrorists involved in the attack.
The CM has announced an ex-gratia of 10 lakh rupees each from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the next of kin of the deceased, in addition to 6 lakh rupees in immediate assistance to be provided by the Kulgam District Administration.
