In Sikkim, border trade between India and China through the Nathu La Pass will resume from the first of next month, ending a suspension that has been in place since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The reopening ceremony is expected to be attended by officials from both sides.
The resumption of trade is expected to boost cross-border commerce, benefiting registered traders, transport operators and allied businesses. Trade through Nathu La had resumed in 2006 after remaining suspended for more than four decades.
The announcement comes as Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri commences his official visit to China today with a meeting with H.E. Sun Haiyan, Vice Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
The duo discussed ways to deepen implementation of the guidance of the leaders for bilateral relations, including addressing issues of priority to both sides and by promoting political, people-to-people, academic and think-tank exchanges.
