Assam’s flood situation has deteriorated further, with the death toll rising to 10 amid incessant rainfall and swelling rivers across the state.
According to latest report, 16 districts have been affected in the state, including Jorhat, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Dhemaji, Tinsukia and Golaghat. A total of 45 revenue circles and 794 villages remain inundated, affecting over three lakh people.
More than 19 thousand hectares of crop area are under water. Five flood-related deaths have been reported yesterday, taking the overall flood-related death toll in the state to 10.
Two persons have also been reported missing on the day. The worst-affected districts include Sivasagar, where over 1.57 lakh people are affected, Charaideo with more than 1.04 lakh, and Jorhat with nearly 51 thousand people affected.
Relief and rescue operations are continuing in the affected areas. Altogether, 101 relief camps and distribution centres have been opened, sheltering more than 9,600 people. NDRF, SDRF, Army and other agencies have rescued over 6,700 people from flood-hit areas.
Several roads, embankments and other infrastructure have also suffered damage due to floodwaters and erosion. Meanwhile, urban flooding has affected parts of Jorhat, Kamrup and Kamrup Metropolitan districts, impacting nearly 7,800 people.
