Goa govt bars entry of persons below 21 into casino gaming areas.

Goa government has tightened regulations governing casino operations by prohibiting entry of persons below 21 years of age into casino gaming areas.

Home Department has issued a notification enforcing the new restriction. The notification also introduces stricter provisions regarding the payment of licence fees for offshore casino vessels.

Operators who fail to pay the annual licence fee within the prescribed time will be liable to pay an 18 per cent penalty. In addition, the notification clarifies the revised definition of the term “designated area” under the relevant law.

The move comes amid long-standing demands to prohibit the entry of young people into casinos.

While the government has not imposed a complete ban on casino entry, it has introduced stricter eligibility norms to regulate access to gaming areas.
