MeT forecasts generally dry weather in Jammu and Kashmir till June 29.

The Weather Department has issued a forecast for Jammu and Kashmir till July 3.

The MeT Department said the region is expected to remain generally dry till the afternoon of June 29, with brief spells of light rain, thundershowers and gusty winds likely at scattered places during the late afternoon hours.

However, from June 30 to July 3, the weather is expected to change, with fresh spells of light-to-moderate rain accompanied by brief intense thundershowers and gusty winds likely at many places across the Union Territory.

According to the forecast, pre-monsoon showers are also likely in the plains of Jammu and adjoining areas, mainly during late night and early morning hours from June 27 to 29.

The weather department said a fresh spell of light to moderate rain and thundershowers is expected at many places across J&K from June 30 to July 5, with brief intense heavy showers, thunder and gusty winds likely at a few locations.

Issuing an advisory, the MET Centre urged people to stay away from loose structures, electric poles, overhead wires and old trees during thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds. Authorities have also advised suspension of boating and Shikara activities during adverse weather conditions.

The department warned of a possibility of hailstorms at isolated places during late afternoon hours and said brief intense showers may trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas.
