Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, L. Murugan, is visiting Punjab to take stock of the situation in Rupnagar district today. Before having a review meeting, he will have a field visit in the affected villages near the Sutlej River and will meet flood victims as well.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Banwari Lal Verma and Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Shobha Karandlaje have visited flood-affected villages in Gurdaspur and Ludhiana yesterday.
They reiterated the Prime Minister’s resolve that the Centre is standing with Punjab in this hour of crisis and every support will be provided to bring the agrarian state back on track.
They said that, other than the already given relief package of 1600 crores, more funds will also be given to the state after receiving the full assessment report.
They said 12,000 crore rupees are already lying with Punjab under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). On the issue of damage caused to the Kartarpur Corridor due to flooding, Ms Karandlaje assured that it will be renovated by the central government.
