The woes of flood affected Punjab do not seems to be ending soon as continous rain in Himachal Pradesh and many parts of Punjab as well is pushing Raavi, Beas and Satluj to spill out.
Controlled release of water from Bhakhra, Pong and other dams is further adding to the problem. All colleges, universities and polytechnics have also been closed till Wednesday as was done with schools earlier.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to the Chief Minister and Governor of Punjab and reviewed the flood situation. He assured all possible assistance to the state.
Punjab is battling with the floods in most parts of the state, especially border districts of Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Fazilka, Ferozepur and other districts.
Overflowing of Ghaggar and Markanda rivers have affected Patiala district promoting the administration to issue a flood advisory for several villages in the Rajpura sub-division. Kapurthala administration has also cautioned the affected villagers to reach to reach at relief camps.
Over one thousand villages have been affected and more than 15,000 people have been evacuated. Nearly 3 lakh acres of land has been inundated and around 1.25 lakh people have been impacted. Hundreds of cattle have also died.
The state government along with Indian Army, Air Force, BSF, NDRF, SDRF, Punjab Police, NGOs and general public is doing it’s best to safely evacuate the stranded.
