Diesel truck on a freight train from Ennore caught fire near Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu this morning.
The train was carrying 45 tankers of high speed diesel and was enroute to Walajabad when the incident occurred early this morning at Egattur, Tiruvallur District.
The reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained. Firefighters have controlled the fire and the process of transferring the diesel to other tankers is being carried out.
Several passenger and freight train services are diverted and the rail services from Chennai to Arakkonam have been temporarily suspended. No one has been injured as of now according to the Railways.
A railway official said that while partial restoration of services will be over by midnight, they will be fully restored early on Monday.
Since the train services were hit, state transport corporations operated over 170 special services.
State Minister (Minorities and Non-Resident Tamils Welfare) S.M. Nasar, along with officials, made an inspection. In view of the blaze and smoke, people living close to the location of the fire accident were taken to shelters.
