IMD forecasts heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh till July 9.

In Himachal Pradesh, the Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in the state from today through 9th of this month, due to the further intensification of the southwest monsoon.

Rainfall is expected to peak on Sunday and Monday, raising the risk of cloudbursts and landslides in the hilly terrain. The state government has urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel.

Tourists have been strongly advised to stay away from rivers and streams, and to follow instructions issued by local authorities. All district administrations have been placed on high alert to respond swiftly to any emergency.

Akashvani correspondent reports, the southwest monsoon entered Himachal Pradesh on June 20, and in just two weeks, heavy rainfall has severely disrupted normal life across the state.

During this period, multiple incidents of cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides have caused significant loss of life and property.

So far, 69 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents, and 37 are still reported missing. Additionally, 223 houses have been damaged. Relief and rehabilitation work is being carried out on a war footing by NDRF and SDRF teams in disaster-affected areas.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced a monthly rental allowance of rupees 5,000 for those who have lost their homes due to the disaster.

He stated that a loss of rupees 700 crore is estimated so far in the state due to the heavy rains, landslides, and cloudbursts during this monsoon season.

The Chief Minister also informed that he has spoken with Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the damage caused by the natural calamity, and the Home Minister has assured all possible assistance to Himachal Pradesh.

According to the Meteorological Centre Shimla, the monsoon is expected to remain highly active from today until July 9, with predictions of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

A yellow alert has been issued for today, while a red alert has been sounded for July 6 in three districts-Kangra, Mandi, and Sirmaur. An orange alert has also been issued for all districts except Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti.
