The annual 38-day Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra formally commenced today from twin routes of Pahalgam in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district and Baltal in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district amid tight security. The Administration allowed Yatris to move from both routes towards the holy Cave early in the morning.
The Holy cave is known for the ice stalagmite that forms within, resembling a Shivlinga. The Cave is situated at an altitude of 12,756 feet in the Himalayas in the Kashmir region.
Yesterday, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch of devotees for the pilgrimage to the holy cave from Bhagwati Nagar Base Camp in Jammu. He extended his best wishes to all the pilgrims.
Akashvani Correspondent reports that more than 5000 pilgrims reached yesterday safely at Base Camps of Pahalgam and Baltal in the Kashmir region. Yatris received a grand welcome from the local populace, civil society members and district administration.
Lakhs of devotees from across the country are expected to pay obeisance this year at the Holy Cave in the Himalayas in the Kashmir region. In light of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22nd, elaborate, foolproof security arrangements have been put in place for the safe, seamless and secure pilgrimage. Every day, the Yatris will leave from Jammu Base Camp to reach the Base Camps on both Yatra routes in the Kashmir region.
