Pakistan violated the ceasefire for the seventh consecutive night by launching unprovoked firing along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. Defence sources said the Indian Army effectively responded to small arms fire by the Pakistan military.
It added that Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small-arms fire across the Line of Control in areas opposite Kupwara, Uri, and Akhnoor sectors. Meanwhile, India countered the ‘unprovoked’ firing across the LoC ‘proportionately,’ the Indian Army said.
Significantly, the ceasefire violation comes after the nominated officers from the Directorate Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan held talks over a hotline on Tuesday, said a source.
“During the night of April 30-May 1, the Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small-arms fire across the LoC opposite Kupwara, Uri and Akhnoor in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir,” the Army said.
These were responded proportionately by the Indian Army, it said.
There was no let up in exchange of firing between Indian and Pakistan armies along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) in J&K for the sixth consecutive day on Thursday (May 1, 2025).
“During the night of 30 April-01 May 2025, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small-arms fire across the Line of Control opposite Kupwara, Uri and Akhnoor in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. These were responded proportionately by the Indian Army,” said PRO (Defence), Northern Command, Lt Colonel Suneel Bartwal here.
Significantly, the violation from the Pakistan side has happened despite the nominated officers from the Directorate Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan holding ceasefire talks over a hotline on Tuesday, said a source.
In 2021, the Director General Military Operations (DGMOs) had reiterated their commitment to abide by the 2003 ceasefire agreement along the LoC and IB in J&K. The agreement was holding well by and large till the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which left 26 civilians dead and spurred a series of skirmishes on the LoC and IB
