Encounter Erupts in J&K’s Udhampur District, Firing Ongoing.

In Jammu and Kashmir, an encounter broke out in the Udhampur district today after security forces established contact with three terrorists. Our correspondent reports that during a search operation by police and other security forces, contact was established with terrorists at the village Jopher in the Ramnagar police station area of the Udhampur district.

The Udhampur police said on X that two to three terrorists are trapped, and firing is ongoing. Police and security forces have been tracking terrorists moving from one area to another for the past 17 days following three encounters since the operation started on March 24 in the Sanyial area of the Kathua district. Two terrorists and four policemen were killed in the encounter in the area on March 27. More details are awaited.

The encounter between security forces and suspected terrorists is currently under way in Marta village of the Ramnagar area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district. The gunfight began on Wednesday during a joint search operation.

According to Deputy Inspector General of Police, Udhampur-Reasi Range, Rayees Mohammad Bhat, the gunfight broke out after a joint search operation was launched by Jammu and Kashmir Police and other security agencies. During the operation, contact was established with the hiding terrorists, triggering a fierce exchange of fire. “Two to three terrorists are believed to be trapped at the encounter site. Firing is ongoing,” DIG Bhat stated.
