Telangana Assembly passes Appropriation Bill 2025 amid BRS concerns.

The Telangana Legislative Assembly passed the Appropriation Bill 2025 late last night amidst concerns voiced by the main opposition party, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), over allocations for the farm sector. Speaker G Prasad Kumar directed Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka to move the Appropriation Bill, which was swiftly passed by voice vote. After passing the Appropriation Bill, the House, which was in session for 11 days, was adjourned sine die.

Earlier intervening during the discussion over allegations of political vengeance, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said if he had played vengeance politics, family members of the opposition leader would have been jailed. On the state debt, the Chief Minister claimed that the total debt inherited by the Congress government from the previous BRS government was over 8.19 lakh crore rupees, as against over 90 crore rupees borrowed by 16 chief ministers in the undivided Andhra Pradesh till 2014.

He also said the debt sourced by the Congress government in the last fifteen months was 1.58 lakh crore rupees, out of which, he claimed that 1.53 lakh crore rupees was taken to pay the principal and interest on the accumulated debts during the BRS government.

Earlier, BRS member K Tarakarama Rao argued that long-term debts were obtained by the BRS government earlier keeping in mind the return on investment and the wealth it would create in the state.
