Talks with Punjab farmers purposeful and positive says Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan.

The third round of talks between Punjab farmers and the delegations of Central and State governments concluded on a positive note in Chandigarh, today.

The next meeting has been scheduled for May 4th. Addressing media soon after the talks, Union Agriculture Minister, Shivraj Singh Chauhan reiterated that the farmers’ interest is paramount for the government and it is continuing to make regular policy interventions to address issues for their welfare across the country. He said that the talks were purposeful and positive. He was accompanied by Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Consumer Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi.

Our Correspondent reports that in over 3-hour long discussions, various legal, economic and other dimensions of the farmers’ demands were explored and highlighted. It was also decided to conduct consultations with all the stakeholders including farmers across the country.

This meeting was in continuation of the two meetings convened by the Central Government earlier on February 14th and 22nd. Punjab was represented by Cabinet Ministers, Gurmeet Singh Khudian, Harpal Singh Cheema and Chetan Singh Jauramajra whereas, farmers were represented by Shri Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Sarwan Singh Pandher.
