LS Speaker urges Delhi MLAs to avoid deadlock, engage in meaningful dialogue.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today inaugurated a two-day orientation program for the newly elected members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly. In his address to the MLAs, Mr. Birla emphasized that to become effective public representatives, they must acquire extensive knowledge of the Constitution’s provisions as well as the rules and procedures of the House. He also stressed that MLAs should actively participate in House discussions.

Highlighting the working style and responsibilities of MLAs, Mr Birla noted that public expectations from the new government are very high, and therefore, deadlock in the House should be avoided. He added that dissent should be expressed in a dignified manner through meaningful dialogue.

The Speaker further stated that in a parliamentary democracy, the role of the Opposition should be positive and constructive. He noted that while Delhi’s public representatives are accountable to the people of Delhi, the entire country will be watching their performance. Mr Birla urged the Delhi MLAs to make the Delhi Assembly a model legislature.

All including Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bist, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Leader of the Opposition Atishi-are attending the two-day program, which will feature expert-led lectures, panel discussions, and interactive sessions focused on good governance, policy-making, and legislative frameworks.
