Sports Ministry lifts suspension on WFI, paving way for Asian Championship trials.

The Sports Ministry has lifted the suspension on the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), ending months of uncertainty surrounding the sport. The decision will pave the way for the resumption of activities, including selection trials for the upcoming Asian Championship in Amman, Jordan.

The ministry has also set guidelines for the WFI to follow. It must ensure that selections for all international events are conducted fairly, transparently, and in compliance with the Sports Code, United World Wrestling regulations, and other official directives.

Additionally, the ministry instructed the federation to maintain a balance of power among its elected officebearers and to distance itself from suspended or terminated officials.

The ministry suspended the WFI on December 24, 2023, for lapses in governance and procedural integrity by the new body, which was elected on December 21.
