Chief Executive Officer (CEO) cum Commissioner of Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) Animesh Kumar Parashar today said one of the most populated cities, Patna, is undergoing a major facelift with innovative IEC campaigns and initiatives.
Addressing a national seminar on solid waste management at Patna, Mr. Parashar said PMC has adopted both a carrot and stick policy with incentives and punitive action, as it is a very herculean task to keep the city clean. He said more than 650 garbage vulnerable points have been given a facelift with the help of people associated with it, giving a sense of pride to Swachhata workers.
The Municipal Commissioner mentioned that these points are developed as a happy point with Litti-Chokha, cake cutting, New Year celebrations, and birthday parties, and for a sustained cleanliness vigilance committee being set up with the help of local stakeholders. The Commissioner added that 15,000 Sadak Shatru were identified who were responsible for throwing garbage and waste openly, they were penalised and affidavits were taken from them.
He added that as a reformative process, door-to-door garbage collection with waste segregation facility vans has been employed. Mr. Parashar said residents and common people are being engaged with Swachhata IPL, Sanjhi Utsav, and other programs.
He said a new toilet policy is being formulated, which will be rolled out to keep the city clean. The Municipal Commissioner highlighted that pink toilets with solar-energised and air-conditioned facilities are already in use. He said a concept of a loo cafe was also rolled out to make mobile toilets sustainable.
