Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Chairman Manoj Kumar today distributed over two thousand and fifty bee boxes and honey colonies across six states under the Honey Mission. He also distributed toolkits to 205 beekeepers through video conference from KVIC’s Rajghat office in Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion, the KVIC Chairman highlighted that in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of spreading the ‘Sweet Revolution’ across villages, the ‘Honey Mission’ has been initiated to distribute bee colonies and bee boxes to beekeepers. He also informed that Khadi products witnessed a historic sale of over 12 crore rupees during the Mahakumbh Mela at Prayagraj.
He also highlighted the achievements of the Khadi sector over the past 10 years. He stated that sales of Khadi and village industry products have increased fivefold, from 31 thousand crore rupees to one lakh 55 thousand crore rupees.
The sales of Khadi garments alone have surged six times. He said over 10 lakh new jobs were created in the last financial year. He also mentioned that the income of Khadi artisans has risen by 213 percent in the past decade, with over 80 percent of employment in the sector being generated for women.
