Israeli military conducts raids on Syrian army bases.

Israeli troops have carried out raids on Syrian army bases, seizing or destroying weapons found there. The Israeli military said its Paratroopers Brigade located rifles, ammunition, and other military equipment left behind by the old Syrian regime. All items were either confiscated or dismantled.

A battalion commander in video footage released by the military said that the raids aimed to eliminate all the weapons and capabilities of the Syrian army.

The announcement came a day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israeli forces would maintain an indefinite presence at the peak of Mount Hermon and in the buffer zone along the Syrian border. He also called for the demilitarisation of the area south of Damascus.

Israel moved troops into the buffer zone after Syria’s government fell. The area is watched by the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force. Despite global protests, Israel took key spots on Mount Hermon, saying it was to keep its people safe.
