Optometrists provide services in Mahakumbh under initiative Netra Kumbh.

Along with providing a spiritual experience, special attention is being given to healthcare in Prayagraj Mahakumbh 2025. A highlight of this is the Netra Kumbh, an initiative aimed at combating vision impairment. 

Akashvani correspondent reports that under the initiative free eye checkup and spectacles are being provided in the Sector-6 area of the fair. Under the Netra Kumbh initiative, 500 ophthalmologists and 1,000 Optometrists are providing their services during the 50-day run of Maha Kumbh. 

So far, around 2 lakh 20 thousand people have been examined, around 1 lakh 50 thousand eye-glasses have been distributed and about 15 thousand people have been referred for further treatment.  Talking to Akashvani News, Chief Executive Officer of Netra Kumbh, Chandrashekhar, said that Netra Kumbh is helping a large number of people from rural areas so that they can get better vision.

An eye specialist, from the Army Medical Corps, Lucknow, Chandrajeet Yadav told Akashvani News that apart from examination, people are given complementary medicines and eye-care advice.

People who came for treatment in Netra Kumbh also shared their experiences with Akashvani News. Along with treatment, people are also being given information about proper eye-care and awareness about eye donation.
