NHRC issues notices to Tamil Nadu officials over electrocution deaths of contract workers.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police of Tamil Nadu over the report that two persons died due to electrocution while repairing a high-tension overhead power line.

Taking suo motu cognizance of media reports, the commission has sought a detailed report within two weeks.

According to the media report, two persons, working as contract labourers with the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation died due to electrocution last week.

The Commission has observed that if the contents of the media reports are true then it indicates gross negligence on the part of the electricity department.
