In Bangladesh, Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari of ISKCON Pundrik Dham was arrested by police at Dhaka airport. He is the spokesperson of Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote which advocates for minorities’ rights and security. A Facebook page associated with Pundarik Dham shared a photo of Chinmoy Krishna Das, claiming he was “picked up by individuals identifying as the Detective Branch of the police from Dhaka airport.”
Moreover, the Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Police confirmed that Chinmoy Krishna had been taken into custody. The officer said, “He was detained based on a request following a complaint. He will be handed over to the designated police station accordingly.” The detective officer could not immediately specify the details of the allegations against Chinmoy.
Earlier on Monday, Bangladesh Sanatani Jagran Jot’s key organiser Gaurang Das Brahmachari told the media that Chinmoy Prabhu was supposed to fly from Dhaka to Chittagong. We have heard that police picked him up from the airport, he said.
Chinmoy Krishna has been advocating on behalf of the Sanatani or Hindu community across Bangladesh, raising eight demands, including a speedy trial tribunal for cases involving the persecution of minorities, the enactment of a minority protection law, and the formation of a minority affairs ministry. Following massive public rallies Hindu community at Chittagong on October 25 and at Rangpur, North Bangladesh on November 22, he has created a sensation in the Socio-political circle of Bangladesh.
Earlier on October 30, a sedition case was filed against Chinmoy Prabhu and 18 others at Kotwali Police Station in Chittagong on grounds of allegedly hoisting a saffron flag above the official flag of Bangladesh during a public rally at Chattogram’s Laldighi Maidan on October 25.
