Indian Markets Slide for 5th Consecutive Session.

The domestic benchmark indices today continued their downward trend for the fifth straight session amid broad-based selling pressure and lacklustre second quarter earnings reports. The broader market at Bombay Stock Exchange also ended in negative territory.

The BSE Sensex tanked 663 points, or 0.8 percent, to close at 79,402, while the NSE Nifty dropped 219 points, or 0.9 percent, to settle at 24,181. In the Forex market, the rupee today ended marginally lower at 84 rupees and eight paise against the US dollar.

In the Indian Bullion Market, 24 Karat Gold was trading down at 78,360 rupees for 10 grams, while Silver 999 Fine was also trading down at 96,880 rupees per one kilogram.

Brent crude was trading at 74 dollars and 93 cents per barrel, while the US West Texas Intermediate crude was trading at 70 dollars and 75 cents per barrel when the reports last came in.
