Regional Met dept predicts ‘Heavy to Very Heavy’ rainfall in Chennai, surrounding districts; Low Pressure system to make landfall tomorrow.

The Regional Met department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in many areas in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpet districts for another 24 hours. Speaking to the media, the Regional head of the Met Department Balachandran said that the low pressure is moving at a speed of 15 km per hour and is located 320 kms off the Chennai Coast.

He said that the system is likely to make a landfall between North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Coast in the early hours tomorrow. Apart from that moderate rains are to continue for another four days in almost ten districts.

Even as the announcement of heavy rains continues, the State Chief Minister M.K.Stalin, Dy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi and other Ministers are inspecting the areas and are discussing with the authorities on further action.

The Indian Coast Guard has said that 29 teams of personnel are ready to take up rescue and relief work in case of emergencies in other districts and 10 teams will be kept ready in Chennai. NDRF and SDRF teams are also kept ready with enough equipment and boats for undertaking relief measures.
