The central government has completed and operationalized four major projects of Rs 920 crore in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar under Namami Gange Mission 2.0. These projects will add 145 megaliters per day MLD of sewage treatment capacity and provide better sewer networks.
These projects based on the Hybrid Annuity PPP (HAM) model have been designed on the basis of Advanced Sequencing Batch Reactor technology and meet the stringent standards prescribed by the National Green Tribunal NGT. These initiatives ensure substantial improvements in the water quality of the Ganga and its tributaries.
Each project, including a Rs 366 crore initiative in Bihar’s Munger, a Rs 129 crore project in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur, a Rs 153 crore development in Ghazipur, and a Rs 271 crore effort in Bareilly, aims to enhance sewage treatment and reduce pollution.
With a combined new sewage treatment capacity and extensive sewer networks, these projects will significantly benefit local residents by improving sanitation infrastructure and preventing untreated sewage from entering the river.
