A massive landslide in Chamoli region of Uttarakhand has led to traffic being disrupted in the area.The landslide was triggered by heavy rainfall that has been occuring in the state for the past week.
No injuries were reported in this landslide which happened near the Gauchar ITBP camp. The Badrinath Highway was blocked after the debris blocked on the road. Authorities are presently trying to clean up the highway. Landslides are also being reported from other parts of the state due to the heavy rainfall that the region has witnessed.
The IMD has said that North and northeast parts of the country will witness intense rainfall from July 26 to 29 due to a monsoon trough.
Earlier, at least 12 people had recently were killed in a cloudburst that wreaked havoc in Pithoragarh district last week. The Pithoragarh-Tawaghat road at Dobat, Thal-Munsiyari road at Hardiya and Tawaghat-Sobla road at Khet in Pithoragarh had also been closed due to landslides in the region. Several rescue and relief agencies have been deployed to assist people facing nature’s fury in the state.
